The Toronto Blue Jays are showing trade interest in Andrew Benintendi, according to a report.

The report adds that Toronto may also be interested in some of Kansas City's bullpen arms. The Blue Jays' bullpen currently ranks in the bottom third of Major League Baseball in terms of ERA.

Benintendi, who turns 28 next week, is hitting .303/.368/.391 in 304 plate appearances this season.

A few clubs have expressed early trade interest in Cincinnati Reds starter Luis Castillo, according to a report.

The Minnesota Twins, New York Mets and San Diego Padres have shown interest in acquiring Castillo.

The 29-year-old has a 3.71 ERA and 49 strikeouts in 51 innings this season.

The Miami Marlins have added a pair of veterans to their organization.

The Marlins have signed Billy Hamilton to a Minor League contract and acquired Ryan Lavarnway in a trade with the Detroit Tigers.

Hamilton has played for five clubs over the last three seasons.

Lavarnway, 34, was hitting .281/.385/.459 through 174 plate appearances for Triple-A Toledo.

The Miami Marlins are "pushing hard" to acquire Ramon Laureano in a trade with the Oakland Athletics, according to a report.

Since returning from a suspension in mid-May, Laureano has batted .242/.326/.358 with two home runs and five stolen bases in 135 plate appearances.

The Chicago Cubs and Philadelphia Phillies are expected to pursue the top shortstops on the free agent market this coming offseason, according to a report.

Carlos Correa, Trea Turner and Xander Bogaerts could all hit the open market. Correa and Bogaerts both have opt-outs in their current contracts.

Infielder-outfielder Miguel Andújar requested a trade from the Yankees after being optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre following Friday’s 13-0 victory over the Tigers.

Hector Gómez first reported -- and The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal has confirmed -- that Andújar informed manager Aaron Boone of his desire to be traded. Boone said that he would not divulge the contents of their discussion, adding that Andújar’s demotion was the result of “a tough numbers game.” 

The Yankees have not confirmed the report.
 

The Kansas City Royals have acquired Albert Abreu from the Texas Rangers in exchange for minor league right-hander Yohanse Morel.

Texas had designated Abreu for assignment earlier this week.

Abreu, 26, had a 3.12 ERA over seven relief appearances for the Rangers after being acquired from the New York Yankees just before the season.

Mike Rizzo says the Washington Nationals will not trade Juan Soto, insisting instead that the club intends to build around the superstar outfielder.

Rizzo, the Nationals' president of baseball operations and general manager, directly addressed Soto's long-term future in Washington during a radio interview Wednesday morning.

"We are not trading Juan Soto," Rizzo told The Sports Junkies on 106.7 The Fan. "We made it clear to his agent and to the player."
